DLI Update – March-April 2019

8 March 2019 – European Commission “Spotlight on Women in Cyber” (Brussels) : On 8 March in Brussels, Ms. Loredana Bucseneanu and Ms. Liliana Carrillo of the DLI Executive Team, contributed to a day-long event at the European Commission showcasing “Women in Cyber” in celebration of International Women’s Day 2019.  Video of the event, which is part of the Women in Digital program supported by Commissioner Gabriel, may be found here.


22-24 March 2019 – W20 Japan Meetings & 5thWAW!/W20 (Tokyo) : On 22 March, Ms. Che Van Dyck, DLI Founding Director,  joined the European Delegation to the 2019 W20 Japan meetings taking place in Tokyo, to deliver a communiqué to the G20 promoting digital, financial and workforce inclusion for women. Ms. Van Dyck also joined the 23-24 March fifth annual World Assembly for Women (WAW!) event hosted by the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs.


29 March 2019 – Career Day (Los Angeles) :   Ms. Che Van Dyck, DLI Founding Director,  joined a 29 March school visit of local actors in the IT, Entertainment and Creative industries, in order to promote STEM careers to young people in Los Angeles County.


9 April 2019 – AWS Public Summit “We Power Tech” Luncheon (Brussels) : Ms. Che Van Dyck, DLI Founding Director,  contributed to an invitation-only luncheon hosted in the context of the annual AWS Public Sector Summit in Brussels on 9 April.


10 April 2019 – AWS Women in Professional Services (Brussels) : On 10 April in Brussels, Ms. Che Van Dyck, DLI Founding Director, delivered a keynote address to the AWS Professional Services gathering in Brussels.


10 April 2019 – WEP & Airbnb “Boosting Female Entrepreneurship in Europe” Luncheon (Brussels) : DLI executive team members joined a 10 April luncheon on “Boosting Female Entrepreneurship in Europe,” hosted by WEP and Airbnb, and chaired by Ms. Claudia Tapardel MEP. Ms. Che Van Dyck, DLI Founding Director, gave a closing address as member of the WEP board of directors.

5 March – ISS Europe 2018 (Dublin): In Dublin on 5 March, Ms. Cheryl Miller, DLI Founder,  contributed to a panel on “Gaining, Training, and Retaining World Class Talent,” at ISS Europe 2018.


7 March – Empowering Girls and Women in Media and ICT (Brussels): In Brussels on 7 March, Ms. Cheryl Miller, DLI Founder,  moderated a day-long seminar for journalists on “empowering girls and women in media and ICT,” as part of the European Parliament celebrations for International Women’s Day 2018.


7 March – Awareness-building for Women in Entrepreneurship (Brussels): On 7 March, Ms. Cheryl Miller, DLI Founder,  joined a high-level panel, hosted by the Brussels Women in Business platform and 100,000 Entrepreneurs, promoting women-led entrepreneurship to young people.


8 March – EU Commissioner Gabriel Panel – Cyber Aware: Which Skills for Cyber (Brussels): On 8 March in Brussels, Ms. Cheryl Miller, DLI Founder, joined a panel chaired by Commissioner for Digital Economy and Society, Ms. Mariya Gabriel, on “Cyber Aware: Which Skills for Cyber,” in celebration of International Women’s Day 2018.


8 March – IWD at EC Executive Agency for SMEs (Brussels): In celebration of International Women’s Day 2018, Ms. Cheryl Miller, DLI Founder, gave a keynote presentation at the European Commission Executive Agency for SMEs (EASME) on “Bridging the Gender Gap and Digital Divide in Europe.”


9 March – fem.talent forum 2018 (Barcelona) : Ms. Cheryl Miller, DLI Founder,  provided a keynote presentation on the topic of “World Wide Women: Inspiring Global Women Talent” for the fem.talent forum 2018, that took place in Barcelona on 9 March.


12 March – Open Belgium (Louvain-La-Neuve): On 12 March at the Open Belgium conference in Louvain-La-Neuve, Ms. Cheryl Miller, DLI Founder, gave a talk on the topic of “Open Knowledge for Social Innovation.”


23 March – Commission on the Status of Women (New York, New York): On 23 March at the UN Headquarters in New York, Ms. Cheryl Miller, DLI Founder, contributed to launch of a GAMAG book on “the holistic nature of the gender and communication agenda,” as part of an official UNESCO, IPDC and GAMAG joint side-event for the 62nd session of the Commission on the Status of Women.


27 March – BETCon (Leuven): On 27 March in Leuven, Belgium, Ms. Cheryl Miller, DLI Founder, gave a talk at the BETCon (Business, Education and Technology) Conference. Proceeds from event ticket sales went to the charity Three Giraffes, promoting education in the Democratic Republic of Congo.


30 March – PWI Growth Club (Brussels): On 30 March in Brussels, Ms. Cheryl Miller, DLI Founder, gave a talk during a luncheon hosted by the Professional Women International Brussels Growth Club.

February is the kickoff to a busy season of Digital Leadership Institute activities that we hope you will join us for! Girl Tech Fest Volunteer Meeting

On Saturday 29 April 2017, DLI will organise the second annual Digital Muse “Girl Tech Fest” in Brussels targeting 250 girls ages 11-14, with a full day of hands-on ESTEAM* workshops that will be all GIRLS, all TECH and all FUN!

To accomplish this undertaking, we will need the support of our awesome network of schools, partners, sponsors and — most important of all — individual volunteers who can help run hands-on workshops, organize a “Digital Muse Lab” and carry out the various activities, large and small, that will make this an incredible day for all the girls who participate.


Cypro Info Session: A Career in Cybersecurity for Women

Are you a woman seeking to transition to a career that is more lucrative and challenging, and that provides greater independence, flexibility and opportunity for advancement? Would you like to investigate a career in technology but don’t know what skills you need or how to get started?

If your answer to any of these questions is “yes,” please join us for an evening of discussion (EN/NL/FR) and exploration with Ms. Rosanna Kurrer, Cofounder of the Digital Leadership Institute, and find out more about DLI’s new CYPRO program, a cyber professional training and workforce placement program for women.


Girl Tech Fest Brussels 2017

DLI is organising the second annual Digital Muse “Girl Tech Fest” for 500 girls at European School VI to stimulate interest toward girls in ESTEAM*. The girls will engage with the intersection of digital and creative as researchers through inspiring keynotes, three small (12 girls max) workshops and a trip to the Digital Muse Lab. NL/EN/FR will be represented and accommodations can be made for other languages upon request.

DLI Launches CYPRO – Cyber Professional Program for Women

On 10 October 2016 in Brussels, the Digital Leadership Institute launched its newest initiative, the CYPRO cyber professional training and workforce placement program for women, which aims to increase participation of experienced women in strategic, often male-dominated, ICT specialist fields such as cybersecurity, data science, DevOps, etc.

The CYPRO program targets experienced women with intensive specialised education, apprenticeship opportunities, and permanent placement into IT organisations that includes ongoing training and mission support for as long as five years.

The first CYPRO cohort on cybersecurity kicked off in Brussels in October 2017, with a group of women who will join the IT workforce in 2018.  For more information about upcoming CYPRO cohorts or about placing CYPRO delegates in your organisation, please contact us.
